Revised GB/T 18043 on Jewelry Approved
Until now, the working group has finished the revision and consultation of GB/T 18043 on jewelry, and completed the approval of the standards at the annual meeting of National Jewelry Standardization Technical Committee.
Since the release of the first standard GB/T 9288 Analysis Method of Jewelry Gold Content in jewelry industry, standardization work of jewelry has played an active role in guiding the production and regulating the market. As more and more quality problems appeared and the jewelry industry develops rapidly, it is necessarily required to revise the jewelry standards.
To facilitate the revision of GB/T 18043, Determination Method of Precious Metal Content in Jewelry --- X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry, SAC set up the working group for precious metal jewelry standardization, which consists of 22 units including relevant industries and associations of China National Light Industry Council, China Gem and Jewelry Association, China Consumers Association (CCA), etc., technical committees of gems and jewelry, provincial quality supervision center of gems, gold and silver articles, and diamond goods, and a batch of leading jewelry enterprises. CCA was involved in the whole process so as to supervise the revision work.
This revision of the standards further affirms GB/T 18043 as the method of screening and inspection, adds important terms of screening and substance, enhances requirements for equipment’s precision, standardizes the inspection process by setting working curve, specifying inspection process, and defining sample treatment processing, etc. The standards also add evaluation requirements for test result uncertainty and the specification of screening and deciding in light of the measurement result scope, and define the method limitation. All the revision not only links up other relevant standards in jewelry industry and completes the jewelry standards system, but keeps in line with the practical requirements of utilizing standards to guide quality inspection organizations and the realistic requirements of the current industrial development.
