Information on standards will facilitate trade

The new Germany-China Standards Information Portal, online in a beta version since May 2009, was officially launched on 12 October 2009 in Berlin. Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping, German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and other government and business representatives watched as the start button was pushed by DIN Director Dr. Torsten Bahke and Wei Chuanzhong, Vice Administrator of AQSIQ (General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China).

This new Internet portal is a valuable source of information regarding standards and standardization systems in Germany and China. Businesses can use the powerful search engine to quickly find the standards they need for their products. Searches can be carried out in German, English or Chinese, with search results being displayed in German or Chinese, in either case with an English translation of the title.

The portal is administered by the national standards bodies of China and Germany, the Standardization Administration of PR China (SAC) and DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, respectively. Selected bibliographic data for nearly 60,000 documents can be searched. These are exchanged and updated on a monthly basis. The relationship of  documents to international standards is also indicated (as identical or modified).

The portal's home page includes in-depth information on the sectors which have been identified by the Working Group Standardization of the German Chinese Joint Committee of Industry and Trade as being particularly important for the joint development of standards in those countries.
