The drive to innovate: electromobility

German-French cooperation launched with working group

(2009-05-12) DIN is an active member of the German-French Working Group dealing with electromobility issues, the kick-off meeting of which took place at the Ministry of Economics and Technology in Berlin on Monday.

The creation of the working group had been agreed by Chancellor Merkel and French President Sarkozy during the German-French Council of Ministers in March. Under the leadership of Secretaries of State Jochen Homann and Luc Chatel, the French Bureau of Automotive Standardization (BNA) took part alongside DIN, with representatives from BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, PSA, Renault, EON, RWE, EDF, Bosch, Evonik, Schneider Electric and Valéo also attending.

The working group aims to develop a common strategy to deal with important matters in the automotive field. This requires close cooperation between the automotive industry, energy and electrotechnology companies, and standards organizations. One of the objectives of the working group is to contribute towards the coordination process and cooperation between the two countries in the field of standardization, with the aim of promoting the development of electric cars for the European, and particularly the international, mass markets.

DIN has already begun action with the setting up of an Electromobility Office in May to coordinate the numerous activities within Germany, taking European and international developments into account.
