Fruitful discussions with our Chinese partners

On 9 March 2009 a Chinese delegation visited DIN, lead by Mr. Ji Zhengkun, the new CEO of the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (SAC).

2009-03-09) Discussions focused on international standardization policies and an exchange of opinions on the further development of the new ISO strategy. It was agreed that ISO should primarily deal with the harmonization of technical rules for the purposes of promoting international trade relations. Further work on the programme regarding social aspects, however, was met with reservation.

Based on an agreement signed on 10 April 2006, the cooperation between SAC and DIN has proven to be fruitful. Of particular importance is the joint project for setting up a German-Chinese standards portal, which will give users in both countries a comprehensive overview of the two technical rule collections. It is expected that the portal will be introduced to the public in June 2009.

The close cooperation between DIN and the Chinese standards body is seen as benefiting the economies of both nations and is based on a long tradition: The first such agreement was concluded in 1979. On the basis of this agreement DIN makes its standards available to the Chinese standards organization, making a considerable contribution to trade relations with China. As a result, experts actively exchange ideas and information in discussions on topics such as quality assurance, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, consumer protection, conformity assessment and the legal aspects of standardization.
