ISO/TS 19807-2 "Nanotechnologies -- Magnetic nanomaterials -- Part 2: Specification of characteristics and measurements for nanostructured superparamagnetic beads for nucleic acid extraction"

ISO/TS 19807-2 "Nanotechnologies -- Magnetic nanomaterials -- Part 2: Specification of characteristics and measurements for nanostructured superparamagnetic beads for nucleic acid extraction" is being developed in ISO/TC 229 "Nanotechnologies" under common Chinese and German project leadership.

In September 2018 ISO/TC 229 accepted the standardization project as active project. It will be probably developed by September 2021 with a project timeframe of 3 years. Major content of ISO/TC 10807-2 will derive from the EMPIR research project MagNaStand. The project coordinator of MagNaStand is the co-project leader of ISO/TS 19807-2. DIN is also participating in the research project MagNaStand. The Technical Specification specifies characteristics and test methods for superparamagnetic beads in the nanoscale which are used for DNA or RNA extraction. ctDNA-extraction is one of the most commonly used biopsy methods for cancer determination and monitoring of cancer development. A very exact extraction method is necessary as ctDNA is only a small part of the whole cellfree DNA in the blood. Nanoscale superparamagnetic beads are very helpful for this. The different forms of superparamagnetic beads and suspension media have different physicochemical properties which affect the extraction in a different matter. The use of good characterized superparamagnetic beads in the nanoscale is very important in this respect.
